Our bodies consist of a number of biological systems. Each system consists from a number of organs that cooperate to carry out specific functions.
We distinguish the following organ systems in the human body (human body systems):
The circulatory system transports oxygen and nutrients to tissues and removes waste products. It consists of the heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins) and blood.
The organs of the digestive system digest the food and absorb its nutrients. During digestion, food is broken down so that it can be absorbed into the bloodstream and through it into all tissues for use in energy production.
The endocrine system produces hormones and regulates tissue function. Endocrine glands include hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal and pineal gland.
The immune system of an organism is a system of organs and biological mechanisms responsible for its defense. It consists of many different organs and tissues. The most important of these are the bone marrow and the thymus gland.
The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and glands that work together to clean the tissue spaces.
The nervous system detects and processes information from sensory organs and activates body reactions.
The muscular system carries out all the movements of the body and maintains the posture of the body. It includes skeletal muscles, smooth muscles and heart muscle.
The reproductive system produces spermatozoa and ova, the junction of which creates zygote. The zygote evolves into an embryo and develops in an organism with hereditary characteristics of both parental organisms. The female reproductive system supports the fetus until birth.
The skeletal system includes bones, associated cartilages and joints of human body. The movement of the body requires bone support, muscle strength and freedom of movement in the joints. The skeletal system supports the body, protects the internal organs and ensures the ability to move.
The organs of the respiratory system, which includes the nose, the pharynx, the larynx, the trachea, the bronchi, the lungs etc., carry out the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide with the environment.
The urinary system consists of the kidneys, the ureters, the bladder and the urethra. It filters the blood by removing excess salts and water and removing unnecessary and harmful substances from the body.
The integumentary system consists of the skin and its appendages, which include hair, nails etc. It protects us from the outside world and is our first defense against bacteria, viruses and other pathogens. Our skin also helps to regulate body temperature and eliminate waste by sweating.
